Only 15 minutes to prepare!
I will be adding this honey roasted ham recipe to my Easter menu this year! Normally I would do mineCrockpot Spiralschinkenorlightly roasted hambut this year I thought I'd try something different.
It's still made with a sweet honey ham coating that coats the meat and makes every bite so tender and juicy. This time though, after cooking it slowly in the oven for a couple of hours, we rolled the ham in a spiral in a sugar mixture and either fried it or set it on fire to form a caramelized sugar crust.
When cut, each piece has a crystallized ring that pops like candy!
This sweet and juicy homemade honey ham makes a stunning dish. It's easy to make and so full of delicious flavors! Pair it with tasty side dishes likedouble baked potatoes, glazed carrotEbroccoli salad, and you have a hassle-free feast toEaster, Thanksgiving, Christmas or Sunday lunch!
recipe ingredients

find fullprintable recipewith specific measurements below.
- Ham:To serve about 15 people, I use a bone-in spiral ham that weighs about 7 to 10 pounds. It comes baked and spiralized for you, so you don't have to worry about it. The bone in the middle holds it together.
- salted butter:Melted butter helps to spread the honey mustard over, in and around the meat in an even layer.
- Honig:It complements the natural sweetness of the ham itself.
- Dijon Sef:A spicy hot mustard that adds deep flavor to the glaze and balances the sweetness well.
- Ananassaft:We put the juice at the bottom of the pan to allow the pineapple flavor to penetrate the meat, as it creates a steam that keeps it tasty and moist.
- For the sugar rub:Granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, paprika and ginger combine to create a sweet, smoky, warm and sugary topping that caramelizes over high heat to form a lovely crust.
Best type of ham for honey roast ham
In the best honey roast ham recipes, the glaze coats the pork between slices, not just on the surface. You can only achieve this with a spiral ham, so this is definitely the way to go.
My recommendation is to use a pre-cooked spiralized bone-in ham. Get it when it's on sale, even if it's frozen, and thaw it the night before.
That way, using a pre-cooked and fully cooked one (whether smoked, roasted or boiled) makes things easier for you.
variations
If serving a smaller crowd, you can buy half a ham if you don't want leftovers. While there are many ways to use them, make sure you have a few to spare!
If you want boneless ham, technically you can use that. Just keep in mind that the texture will be different as it's a little more finished in the way it's reassembled to hold its shape.
You can also buy a ham without a spiral and just spread it on the outside. Remember to remove the shell first. It won't be a classic honey ham because the flavor doesn't penetrate the meat as much, but it will still cook well with a caramelized outer layer.
Some alternative ingredients could be to swap out the pineapple juice for orange juice or water and the honey for maple syrup or brown sugar.
How to cook honey roasted ham
Before starting, remove the packaging from the ham and discard the accompanying glaze. The best nail polishes are always better from scratch!
It's also a good idea to pat it dry with a paper towel and let it sit for a while just to remove excess surface moisture.

- Honey Ham Glaze.Mix the melted butter, honey and mustard and rub with your hands over and between the spirals, if desired. Place cut side down in a shallow skillet and pour over the pineapple juice. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated 325°F oven for 2 hours and 20 minutes.
- Remove the ham from the oven.Cover and let cool for 15 minutes.
- Make the sugar rub.Meanwhile, combine the ingredients for the sugar in a small bowl and pour 1/2 of the mixture into a baking dish.
- Cover meat.Remove the foil from the ham and place on the baking sheet with the rube sugar. Leave the flat part alone, but rub the rest of the ham into the sugar mixture until well coated.
- Caramelize the sugar crust. If you have a kitchen torch, light it. If not, turn the oven to broiler and place it under the broiler. Don't get too close to the ham, about 1 inch is fine or it could burn. Whisk continuously in small circles until the sugar starts to bubble and turns into a hard, shiny shell. Keep an eye out, sugar can go from sweet to burnt very quickly.
- Servier es!Reduce the remainder of the sugar mixture on the stovetop until thickened and serve with the honey ham as a dipping sauce. To enjoy!
expert tips
- Bring the meat to room temperature.Let rest 30 minutes before cooking. It helps with cooking.
- Remember to add liquid to the pot!In addition to adding flavor, it also helps keep the meat juicy. Since it's already cooked, we don't want it to dry out.
- Don't throw away the bone! After enjoying your honey-roasted ham, save the bone to make a homemade stock or broth.Bean and Ham Soup.
- When your guests aren't ready to eat, keep warm at 170°F until ready to serve.
- let it restAs with any meat, you should let it rest as soon as it comes out of the oven. Juices have a chance to settle and redistribute.
- The gravy and gravy mixture will harden as it cools.Reheat as needed.

Frequently asked questions about recipes
How long should I bake honey ham?
The general rule is to cook it 20 minutes per kilo. If you're not sure, always use a meat thermometer to test. The internal temperature should be 140°F when ready to remove from the oven.
What is the best temperature for roasting ham?
Since we're not cooking it, just adding flavor and heating it up, we want to make sure we keep it low at 325F so we don't overcook and dry it out.
Can I make it in the slow cooker?
Yes! Place the honey-roasted ham in the slow cooker, flat side down. Brush or rub the butter mixture over it. Cook over low heat for 4 to 5 hours or until heated through to 140°F on a digital thermometer. From there, follow the instructions.
As moisture is trapped in the slow cooker, there is no need to add liquid to the bottom. The honey glaze and ham drippings make their own liquid.
What if I don't have a flashlight?
That's OK! Place under the grill (more or less, as all ovens are different) for 10 to 20 minutes. Keep an eye out so you don't burn.
It may not provide the most even crust just because of the way the ham is shaped, the top may crust before the sides meet, but it will still taste amazing.

store
Leftovers stay fresh and can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. The sugar helps preserve it so you have plenty of time for leftovers!
Reheat all the slices in the microwave or oven over low heat.

- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon clove
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon Red-haired
instructions
Preheat oven to 325°F. Remove ham from wrapper and discard topping packet.
In a small pan melt the butter. Add honey and mustard. Use your hands to rub the honey mixture all over the ham, including between the spiral slices, if desired. Place cut side down in a shallow skillet or Dutch oven. Pour the pineapple juice around the ham. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
Bake for 2 hours and 20 minutes (20 minutes per pound) or until the internal temperature reads 140°F on a digital thermometer. Remove from the oven, cover and let cool for 15 minutes.
In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, paprika and ginger. Place 1/2 on a baking sheet.
Place the ham with the beets on the baking sheet. Roll the ham in the sugar mixture, except the flat side. Use your hands to work the excess sugar mixture into the ham until well coated.
Light a kitchen lamp (or turn on the oven for grilling - see notes). Holding flame about 1 inch from ham, whisk continuously in small circles until sugar mixture is bubbling. The liquid should harden into a shiny shell. Continue until all of the sugar mixture has melted. If not serving immediately, cover the ham and place back in the oven at 170°F.
In a small saucepan, add remaining mixture of 1/2 sugar with 2 tablespoons water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook for 2 to 5 minutes or until thickened. Serve with the ham as a sauce. Reheat when the sauce starts to harden.
